I have too many thoughts in my head that sometimes I can't fall asleep at night. I've been remedying this by watching movies to keep my brain occupied so I'll stop worrying about trivial matters like finances, finding a job, bills and what not. All those things require some degree of worrying, but not while I'm trying to sleep!! Here are the three movies that I have on rotation. I never make it past the first 20 or 30 minutes, so sometimes I start the movie in the middle so I won't get bored, LOL.
"A STAR IS BORN" starring Fredrich March and Janet Gaynor
One of my all time favorite movies, partly because I can relate to it. It's the story of a small-town girl with huge dreams of becoming a famous actress. She is told she will have to pay for her dreams with her heart, but is she ready for that sacrifice? As an actor, I've had to make sacrifices myself. This movie speaks to me, as I think it would to any other actor. Many people think that the Judy Garland remake is the original, but it is not. I haven't seen Judy's version yet, but I somehow doubt that it would have the kind of breathless charm this 1937 version has.
"DEFINITELY MAYBE" Starring Abigail Breslin, Isla Fischer, and Ryan Reynolds.
Love this movie as well. Isla Fischer makes me want to cry. This movie is sweet, not too deep. Just sweet.
"PENNY SERENADE" starring Cary Grant and Irene Dunne
I caught this movie once at 3am on some random channel before my parents got cable. I fell in love with Cary Grant at that very moment. They just don't make love stories like this anymore. I found this movie in a boxed collection with "A Star is Born" and had to buy it. I haven't watched all the movies in the set because I haven't been able to stop watching this one!
There you go, just a couple of sweet and sentimental movies. Don't worry, I watch them when I'm awake, too. There are some brilliant brilliant scenes in "A Star is Born" by the way. You can watch the whole thing on YouTube!
So I've been in Cali for about 2 weeks now. I've seen a couple of old and true friends, wrote (in my opinion) an amazingly gorgeous song, went to the doctor, visited Chinatown and had Chinese food, shopped (I bought a magnet - I'm between contracts, let's not even play, LOL) and I'm currently preparing for a yard sale. In the coming weeks, there's a trip to Santa Barbara planned, dinner at The Stinking Rose, a trip to the beach, Father's Office (C'mon now Henry, get it together so we can get our beer on!), and hopefully a trip to WeHo, my old stomping grounds. I'm hoping to get to the beach, but it's not that warm. When it does get warm, it's for a short while. We do have somewhat of a winter here in LA, but compared to where I was last month, I'll take the beach. Sorry VA, you can keep your Snowmageddon.
Donut has been exceptionally naughty being here. His routine has been disrupted, and he isn't too fond of that. He isn't too fond of anything or anyone, really. This little cranky pup has been grating my last nerves and eating poop. But I guess I still love him. He was meant to be mine. Who else would put up with his bastardly, I mean, dastardly ways? No one. I've grumbled profanities to him that would make Lisa Lampanelli bite her tongue.
My parents' house is undergoing a few renovations, starting with my old room. It's a little sad to see all my belongings piled up in the living room ready for sale. I hope whoever buys them takes care of them. This really means I don't live at home anymore. I haven't lived at home for years, but this sort of makes it permanent. (sigh) My old textbooks are selling quickly, which is good. I was reading one of them today before I shipped it, and I sort of regret putting that one for sale. It was actually interesting. Oh well. Maybe I'll buy it back. Who knows.
It's nice to be with family. I didn't realize how much I missed them...
Went to the doctor for my annual checkup. Good news, I am as healthy as a horse. Except for a rash I have on my torso which turns out is an allergic reaction to an old shirt I found in my closet at home. Ironic thing is that it is a shirt my ex-boyfriend's sister gave me. What does that tell you???
Some pics from today:
Ate here for lunch! Yum!
Happy Chinese New Year!!
Fried fish
Tea and soup!
Shrimp fried rice
Shrimp in oyster sauce, not my favorite.
Spicy salty squid - MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE!!
My fortune. I wonder what letter it's talking about...
Pigeons eating dried rice from the ground...I wonder if they realize they will soon explode...
After eating, I walked around for a bit. I'm confused as usual.
Pretty quiet on a Monday. This place is ridonk on a weekend.
I love knives that are out in the open, free to play with in the shop. Is that a meat cleaver? Why, yes kids, it is!
Careful when using your lint shaver! Or trouble will happen!
Hundred horses sculpture. I got some hibiscus tea here. One day I will own a tea shop. And this sculpture.
Drain me free of life....ugh I hate getting blood drawn!!
I guess I could get one of those whatever deals that lets people ask you questions and what not. But later. I have to figure out how to consolidate this mess!!! And how do I configure an RSS feed???
Technology, sigh.
At any rate, I had a crazy dream last night where the sun exploded and we were all just waiting for the earth to be swallowed by the impending flames. It got so hot that the oceans evaporated before our eyes...but not so hot that we died while witnessing it. Then I went to go watch a show. Weird.
And it's raining today...JUST before I was going to take Donut for a walk. Now he'll be cranky for the rest of the day. Last night I let him out to pee and caught him eating poop in the backyard. And it wasn't even his, damn cat. NO MORE KISSES!!!!!
I've been entertaining a muse for the past 3.5 hours. Inspiration hit me hard this evening and I've been writing at my piano (a REAL live piano, not a stinkin' keyboard!!) since 2:30am PST. Maybe it was that massage that I got yesterday that removed the clouds from my head. But I just finished writing this song and I feel so relieved. Unfortunately this is not one for sharing just yet, but maybe soon...I'm just glad I was able to WORK!!!
As much as I'm enjoying my manicure, I'm going to have to trim my fingernails soon. I can't play the piano comfortably!
Actually, these canaries are known as Gloster Canaries and that bowl cut Beatle hairdo is their trademark. I don't like keeping birds as pets, but if I were to get a bird I'd get a couple of these to brighten up my day. LOL!! I saw this one at the Irvine Spectrum this past Tuesday.
I went to get a massage today and this was taped on the wall, LOL. This place was great!! $35.00 for an ENTIRE hour!!! Amazing. I should have paid for TWO hours.
